WS100 Run Benefits Abused & Neglected Children

Lynne Harkey, an NTTR member from College Station, made a personal decision to use her recent run at the 2005 Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run to raise money for a charity in her hometown. Scotty’s House is a non-profit organization which works with abused and neglected children in the Bryan/College Station area. Children are referred to Scotty’s House by law enforcement officials, Child Protective Service agents, and medical professionals. The organization is currently making plans for building a new facility and is in need of major financial assistance. As a pediatric nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, Harkey sees firsthand the benefits that abused and neglected children receive from Scotty’s House. She has also seen firsthand the struggles and medical issues faced by many young children. Knowing that she would be faced with physical pain and doubts in her abilities to finish, Harkey was able to use these courageous and inspiring children as her inspiration to keep moving forward. On Sunday, June 26, Harkey did complete the Western States 100 in 28:56, and you can help her continue in her quest to raise funds for Scotty’s House. Cash, checks or money orders payable to Scotty’s House can be sent to the following address: Lynne Harkey 4902 Winding Creek Road College Station, TX 77845
