THE KNOBBER

15K & 25K Trail Runs •  September 6, 2008
Knob Hills Trail, Grapevine Lake

[2006 Results]         [Knobber Registration]          [Knobber Rules]          [Knobber Schedule]

After having to cancel the 2007 event due to flooding at Grapevine Lake, it is my pleasure to announce the second running of The Knobber 15K & 25K Trail Runs.  This will be for members and guests only and will start and finish at the Dunham Rd. trailhead. Please refer to the Trails section of this site for course description and directions.

The Knobber will feature a gender/age-graded format over 15K & 25K distances. Water and replacement drink will be provided with 3-4.5 miles between aid. It will still be warm, so be sure you're carrying a water bottle. Entry is free to members and $10* for guests (* - $10 pays for one NTTR membership for the remainder of 2008).

This is a great way to kick off your training for Rockledge Rumble, so I hope you will plan on joining us.

This trail is relatively easy, but provides a nice variety of terrain. We will also use this opportunity to clean up around the trailhead, and each participant will be asked to collect and haul off one small bag of trash.

Volunteers are needed, so if you’re not interested in running, you can still get involved. More info will follow, but block out the date now on your calendar, and join in the fun at The Knobber.

Gotta run,

Fred Thompson
Head Knobber

Official Rules for The Knobber

1. This is a trail run.
2. Aid may be minimal with as much as 4.5 miles between aid stations and fluid replacement opportunities. Plan accordingly.
3. Terrain is varied and features 100% dirt trails with roots, rocks, short hills, dry creek bed crossings, horse poop, and critters. If this concerns you, refer to item number 1.
4. It could be hot, cold, wet/muddy, dusty, windy, and/or humid. If this is unsettling in any way, refer to item number 1.
5. Any whiners will be asked to identify themselves before the run starts and will be designated as assistant race directors or Little Knobbers.
6. Any congratulations, praise, thank yous, or general adoration should be directed to any volunteer encountered on course or the Head Knobber.
7. Any criticisms, complaints, whining, or general malcontent should be directed to those individuals designated as Little Knobbers.
8. This course consists of both bike and horse trails and either or both could be encountered at any time. Be alert. Yield to both.
9. Because of the race format, you will be passing other runners, being passed by other runners, and encounter runners from the opposite direction on mostly single-track trails. Please observe generally accepted trail courtesies. “On your left” command heard from behind you means someone wants to pass on your left side. Step to your right when feasible to allow passage.
10. As trail runners, we should be stewards of the trails. Please help us pick up trash around the trailhead after your run.
11. Dunham Rd is a deadend at the trailhead. Do not drive all the way to the turnaround. This will be our start/finish area. Please parallel park alongside the road.
12. All decisions of the Head Knobber are final though subject to change depending on mood.
13. HAVE FUN AND KNOB ON!
